Ways to Save Money on an Exterior Paint Job
There are many ways to save money when painting your home. I have also included a few things to avoid that my seem cost saving options that may come back to bite you in the end.
01
Book Your Paint Job with a Neighbor!

Often a Painting Contractor will offer a discounts when scheduling several jobs at the same time, especially when they are close together. Painting several homes close together allows your contractor to maximize etheir time and effectiveness.
02
Plan Ahead: Schedule your Job in the Spring or Fall

Scheduling the painting of your home at the last minute during the height of the painting season can cost more. In August and September the most reputable and sought after contractors are very busy and may only be able to fit more jobs in by extending their hours and work on Saturdays. This increases the cost of labor dramatically and will be passed on to the homeower.

We at ArtisanNW even offer discounts when booking a job in the Fall for the following season.
03
Use Only the Best Paint
While using the most expensive paint may add approximately 10% more to the total cost of the entire job, you will save money in the long run. Inexpensive paint willfade quickly or may fail long before a quality paint does. We only use the best paint available. I will be adding another page soon with more details about the importance of paint quality.
04
When you Have Multiple Projects, Hire one Contractor!

With experience in all phases of construction, Greg Steele and ArtisanNW, are able to take care of any and all needs you may have. When we are able to perform more than just painting. As a full service remodeling contractor we are able to assist with all aspects of home construction. Most of our painting projects also include other trade skills like; Siding and Dry Rot repair, Complete Home Residing, ReRoofing, Tile Work or Complete Kitchen and Bath Redisign and Remodeling. This allows us to spread the our cost of doing business over the entire contracted amount. It also saves you time and eliminates the hastle of dealing with multiple contractors and schedules.
05
Paint only what is Necessary!

Your existing paint will fade at different rates due to sun and weather exposure. It may be an option to just paint the areas that need it and put off the larger expense of painting the entire home and trim. Every year we help a handful of home owners by providing this type of service at a fraction of the cost of painting the entire home, often saving the homeowner up to 75% or more on a new paint job.
06
Hire Only a Licensed Contractor who is Bonded and Insured-With Workmans Comp As Well!

You may save a bit in the short run by hiring contractors who are not properlylicensed and insured, but is the risk worth the savings? In all honesty, over the years I have paid many thousands of dollars for the correct insurance and licensing, but my clients have never been at risk. Only once have I had to file a claim with my workmans comp provider but I was grateful to have the insurance that paid for all medical expenses for my employee for the year and an half that he was recouperating. If a ladder fall accident occurred on your home with an uninsured worker your entire home ownership may be in jeopardy.
